The FairyGothMother blog

We need YOU!!!

We are working on a new blog and facebook project and it needs our lovely customers and fans to take part. It will involve a different dress or corset styled ensemble being photographed on one of you, in or near our London shop. We will cover outfits that suit sizes UK 8-20 and we welcome all ages and looks. After all that's the point, to showcase our lovely diverse fan base.

The practicalities...

  • You need not be shy or mind your pictures or video clip featuring on our website and social media.
  • It's likely if you wont be a current bride on the look out for your dress, as this might ruin the surprise for your partner!
  • Our shop is in Central London so you need to be able to get there and have around half an hour to an hour free to dress up and twirl.
(We also welcome enquiries from stylists etc who want to get involved to expand their portfolios)

Interested?

email us at hello@fairygothmother.co.uk with the following...

  • Your name
  • Date of birth
  • email and telephone numbers.
  • Your height - don't worry we have outfits for all shapes
  • Your size - i.e high street size, bust, waist and hip measurements
  • A picture of yourself.
We are in the midst of planning the first outfits, so please be patient if we don't not reply straight away.

Time for Some FairyGothMother Brides and Bridesmaids

It's been a while since we showed some of our fabulous brides and their bridesmaids, so here are two of our most radiant ones who have sent us glimpses of their recent special days...

The beautiful Ruth

Ruth's dress is the fabulous House of Mooshki Sarah

And we always like comments like Ruth's... "Everyone has commented on the dress so I thought you might like to seem some pics from the big day! Thanks again for a stress-free experience! xx". Thank you Ruth. It was a pleasure!

The beautiful Katherine and her bridesmaids

Katherine's bridesmaids are wearing True Bride dresses.

Corset Fittings and Ordering Your Corset in our London Corset Shop

1. The first step to finding your perfect corset is making an appointment to view them and try some on . It is possible to order them online but you will have far more choices if you are able to visit. If you can't get in to see us then we have a How to Choose your Corset. Deep plunge overbust corset with delicate black French lace overlay
Stunningly gorgeous and popular luxurious overbust corset in a basque style, with a specialist concealed zip, steel boning, modesty panel and back lacing 2. When you come in you will be properly measured and fitted with corsets that suit your body shape and size. We keep a range of shapes and styles in stock for you to try and this is when you can view the fabric swatches and decide on extra options such as straps or matching items like skirts and jackets. (It is also possible to select an off-the-peg option). Payment is due with the order and delivery takes anything from 6-16 weeks depending on the chosen options.

3. Once the corset, or corset ensemble, comes into stock we will phone and let you know. If you are local, this is the time to come in with the correct shoes, etc.

If you live further away you may prefer to have your new corset shipped direct to you.

Ordering Your Retro Tea Length Fifties Wedding Dress

1. The first step to finding your perfect gown is making an appointment to view them. You can request an appointment online. Tea length 50's style tulle dress with black vintage inspired lace applique
Fabulous star tulle Fifties style wedding or prom dress. Shown in black tulle over pearl satin, can also be made in other colours 2. Once you’ve made a decision you will need to return for measurements and finalise all the details. At this point you will need to make payment. In the case of a coloured gown or a less expensive one you will need to make full payment in advance. All other orders require 50% in advance and the balance when the dress or outfit arrives.
3. Once the dress comes into stock we will phone and let you know and the balance is now due. If you are local this is the time to come and view the gown and try it on with the correct shoes and lingerie. If the dress requires alterations we will then book you in with the seamstress. otherwise you get to take the gown home. Pretty 50's style wedding dress with three quarter length sleeves and embroidered floral lace finished with tiny pearl trims
4. If you live further away you may prefer to book your gown viewing and alterations fitting for the same time. Alterations cost extra and are payable directly to your seamstress at the first fitting. You may need up to three fitting appointments depending on the complexity of alterations and you need to allow around 8 weeks for this. Please let us know if you are travelling a long distance and we will try to condense the number of times you need to visit. Alternatively you may prefer to have your alterations done locally and have the dresses shipped to you.

The Do's and Don'ts of Choosing Your Wedding Dress and Making the Most of Your Appointment

If possible, make your first appointment 8-12 months ahead of the wedding. Most gowns take around 5 months to come in and we recommend you aim to have your dress arrive around 3 months before the wedding. You will have a greater choice if you give us lots of time, though some dresses can take just 3 months and rush is possible, this will lessen your choice and limit time for alterations. We keep a good selection of off-the-peg and sample gowns for brides on a shorter timescale. Saturdays are busiest, so book well in advance if you need to travel. We’re also open on Sunday, if you want to avoid Saturday. We see up to two brides each hour on a weekend, so if you would prefer the bridal floor to yourself consider a quieter weekday appointment. Alteration appointments take place on Tuesdays away from the bustle of weekend appointments. 1950’s tea length wedding dresses come to just above the ankle. Shorter Fifties wedding dresses are also available and most dresses can be made longer or shorter to suit. Coloured petticoats are also available to suit your colour schemes.

DO

  • Bring a camera, or use your camera phone. We welcome brides or their friends taking pictures for comparison purposes.
  • Bring someone with you, whether that’s the mother of the bride, maid of honour or a friend. We must limit this to a maximum of three people.
  • Allow an hour to try on your 1950’s tea length wedding dress or corset and skirt combination gown.
  • Have an open mind and try colours and shapes you hadn’t considered. Everything looks different on a body than on the hanger. We specialise in corset wedding dresses and 1950's tea length wedding dresses.
  • Wear the lingerie you plan to wear on the day if possible. A different bra can have an effect on the fit of the dress and alterations are costly.
  • Bring shoes of the height you plan to wear on the day, even if they aren’t the actual ones you have in mind.
  • Tell us if you are interested in a particular dress/es, as samples sometimes sell to short notice brides and we may need to reschedule when a new one arrives.

DON'T

  • Have a spray tan within two weeks of your appointment or fittings. Your tan will mark the dresses, and we will have to postpone your appointment if this happens to limit damage to gowns.
  • Try to bring young children, as bridal appointments usually last an hour and this can be boring for little ones.
  • Order your dress until you have lost any weight you are planning. Last minute weight loss, or gain, will mean your dress won’t fit. Ordering the dress in the size you hope to be rarely works.
  • Compare yourself to the magazine models, who are generally tall and size 6 or less. If you are 5ft and a size 16-18 the dress will look different on you. Be realistic.
